ZEN AMA Global Launches Immunization Initiative to Reduce Zero-Dose Burden in Kano State

Kano, Nigeria – 19th August, 2025 – As part of its commitment to improving health outcomes and strengthening routine immunization systems in Nigeria, ZEN AMA GSDS has commenced the Kano Immunization Enhancement Program (KIEP-TZRS) — a strategic initiative designed to reduce the burden of zero-dose children and scale up HPV vaccination among adolescent girls in Ungogo, Nassarawa, and Tarauni Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kano State.

The program officially kicked off with the training of 15 healthcare workers, including immunization service providers and data recorders, on effective outreach delivery and data quality improvement. The training focused on enhancing participants’ capacity to conduct structured outreach sessions, strengthen immunization data reporting through DHIS2, and engage caregivers and community leaders to improve vaccine uptake.

According to the State Program Coordinator, this capacity-building activity marks a significant milestone in ZEN AMA’s ongoing efforts to promote evidence-driven health interventions. “Our goal is to ensure that every outreach session is guided by quality data, community participation, and accountability — ultimately ensuring no child is left behind,” the Coordinator noted.

The KIEP-TZRS project will run from August 2025 to July 2026, targeting 30 public health facilities across 15 wards. Through bi-monthly special outreach sessions, the project will identify, track, and vaccinate zero-dose children while fostering sustainable community ownership of routine immunization services.

ZEN AMA continues to advance innovative, data-driven, and community-centered approaches to improve primary healthcare delivery and strengthen Nigeria’s immunization system.
