PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Kano Immunization Enhancement Program  is a one-year initiative designed to reduce the burden of zero-dose children and scale up HPV vaccination in Ungogo, Nassarawa, and Tarauni LGAs of Kano State. Implemented by ZEN AMA GSDS, the project adopts a design-thinking approach to conduct bi-monthly special outreach sessions across 30 public health facilities in 15 wards. Through these sessions, the program identifies, tracks, and immunizes zero-dose children, enhances caregivers’ awareness, and strengthens the engagement of community leaders in immunization delivery. Core interventions include capacity building for service providers and data recorders, supportive supervision, and the establishment of reliable data flow into DHIS2 for improved decision-making. By integrating local structures and strengthening monitoring and evaluation, the program aims to enhance immunization coverage, improve HPV uptake and reinforce sustainable community ownership of routine immunization services.

PROJECT FORCAST

The project is expected to increase immunization coverage and reduce the number of zero-dose children in targeted LGAs. It will improve data accuracy, enhance caregivers’ awareness, and foster greater community participation in immunization programs. Ultimately, the intervention will contribute to sustainable community support systems that strengthen the primary healthcare structure and routine immunization performance in Kano State.
